A diagnosis can bring many emotions and questions. You do not need to understand or solve everything at once.
Give yourself time
It is normal to feel worried, confused or overwhelmed. Cerebral palsy affects every child differently, and a diagnosis does not define your child’s personality, potential or future.
Build the right care team
Ask your paediatrician which assessments and professionals are appropriate. Support may include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language support, nutrition guidance, vision or hearing checks and educational support.
Start with family priorities
Write down the daily activities that matter most to your child and family—comfortable positioning, feeding, play, communication, sleep or mobility. Small, meaningful goals can make the plan easier to follow.
Keep clear records
Keep reports, prescriptions, therapy notes and questions together. Record changes you notice and take them to appointments. Seek professional advice whenever you are concerned about movement, feeding, communication or development.
